What are Orthotics? 3d-laser-scan

Orthotics are devices that are intended to correct an abnormal or faulty lower limb biomechanics.  Despite common belief, orthotics are not just “arch supports”.  They perform functions that make standing, walking, and running more comfortable and efficient by altering not lower limb motions but the force driving lower limb motions.

We prescribe orthotics as a conservative approach to many foot problems or as a method of control after certain types of foot surgery; their use is a highly successful, practical form of treatment.

Orthotics take various forms and are constructed of various materials and depending on your presenting problems we will discuss which forms of orthotics are suitable for your problems.  All are concerned with improving foot function and minimizing stress forces that could ultimately cause foot deformity and pain.

Other Types of Orthotics

Various other orthotics may be used for multidirectional sports or edge-control sports by casting the foot within the ski boot, ice skate boot, or inline skate boot. Combinations of semiflexible material and soft material to accommodate painful areas are utilized for specific problems.
